چکیده

Qanda is MITRE’s entry into the question-answering (QA) track of the TREC conference(Voorhees & Harman 2002). This year, Qanda was re-engineered to use a new architecture for human language technology called Catalyst, developed at MITRE for the DARPA TIDES program. The Catalyst architecture was chosen because it was specifically designed for fast processing and for combining the strengths of Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language Processing (NIP) into a single framework. These technology fields are critical to the development of QA sysictus. The current Qanda implementation serves as a prototype for developing QA systems in the Catalyst architecture. This paper serves as an introduction to Catalyst and the Qanda implementation.

MITRE's Qanda at TREC-12

Qanda uses a general architecture for human language technology called Catalyst, (Burger & Mardis 2002, Nyberg et al., to appear). Developed at MITRE for the DARPA TIDES program, the Catalyst architecture is specifically designed for fast processing and for combining the strengths of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing into a single framework. Catalyst uses a dataflow architec...

The Opacity of Glass Rethinking Transparency in Contemporary Architecture

In this paper, an exchange of letters between the philosopher Jacques Derrida and architect Peter Eisenman is used as a catalyst to discuss the material qualities of glass and its relationship with the concept of transparency in architecture. In his criticism of an architecture devoid of human qualities, Derrida uses glass, defined through Walter Benjamin’s writings, as a hard and cold material...

Synthesis of Polysiloxanes In Microemulsion Via ring opening of D4

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) has been synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) in microemulsion with acidic catalyst. The structure and properties of microemulsion were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Photo Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS). The effect of the variation in pH value, amoun...

Addition of a second alcohol in magnesium ethoxide synthesis as a way to vary the pore architecture of Ziegler-Natta catalysts

In Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization, the pore architecture of catalysts plays a crucial role in catalytic performances and polymer properties. While the type of preparation routes (such as chemical reaction and solution precipitation) greatly affects the catalyst pore architecture as a result of different solidification mechanisms, the modification of the pore architecture within a given rou...

Providing a conceptual model of the underground space as a urban development catalyst Using the grounded theory

Aims & backgrounds: Over time, cities are confronted with a number of natural and artificial problems such as lack of green and open spaces, high density and lack of recreational spaces, which in some cases can be reasonably efficient use of subsurface spaces. Builders of subsurface space are the urban development catalyst. Methodology: The purpose of this study is qualitative and fundament...
